A drying board is a device for slowing the rate at which artefacts and scrolls lined with paper dry. It is traditionally constructed in Japan to prevent warping and distortion of the paper once it is fully pasted out. A drying board can be made of a frame of any size and is usually made from wood, though in some cases steel or metal is used. The surface of the frame is covered with a layer of wheat starch paste and the paper is then laid on top. Once the paper is fully pasted out, a second coat of the starch paste is applied. This
