World of Warcraft - Item Upgrading The upgrade of an item lets players increase the gear rating of an item by up to 700 points and give it a bonus. Items can be upgraded if they are in your inventory and you decide to take them to the kiln. Certain items are worth upgrading due to their distinctive stats.
