In this video tutorial, I'll show you how to download and install SketchUp 8. Then we'll start by creating a basic wood workbench using the Push-Pull technique that can be used for carpentry or do-it-yourself projects around the house. Then we'll go into depth on all of the preferences that you need to use in order to create a home design that you love. In this video tutorial, I'll cover the following topics:
SketchUp 8 installation
Setting up User Preferences for SketchUp 8.0 - Define a start-up window size, set a default drawing type, adjust the program display and rotate images in 90 degree increments. I'll also show you how to control when layers are automatically created and when groups are automatically created for components. I'll also show you how to control when layers are automatically created and when groups are automatically created for components.
How to use the Modeling Tools of SketchUp
How to use the Push/Pull Tool in SketchUp 8.0 - I'll show you how to draw a basic box which can be used for any number of projects. I'll also show you how to make your box easier to manage on larger projects by adding labels, grouping objects and creating components.
Adding Detail with Lines, Text & Dimension Tools in SketchUp 8 - Use the Line tool to add dimensioning around your model. The Text tool allows you to add comments or titles that are linked directly with the object that they're placed on. The Dimension tool turns lines into perfectly scaled measurements that can be easily inserted into your project drawings or used on their own.
Using the Scaling Tools of SketchUp 8 - The Scale tool allows you to change the size of your lines, groups and components. This will allow you to make a door wider or a sofa taller. Once you have your scale tool active, you can then enter a percentage that will be applied throughout the entire model.
How to use Groups and Components in SketchUp 8 - Groups will allow you to collect objects together into one category which can be created, edited and deleted as a single entity. Components are even more versatile because they can be used as actual building blocks with all of the properties of the original component within them. The Push/Pull tool makes it easy to create a single object from a group or a component.
Using the Tool Palettes in SketchUp 8 - The Tool Palette will allow you to add, remove and organize all of the tools in a particular category in your toolbar. I'll show you how to add, remove and reorder all of the tools in the Utility palettes.
Using the Command Palettes in SketchUp 8 - The Command palettes will allow you to save commonly used commands that can be accessed from the menus or by using keyboard shortcuts. I'll show you how to save commonly used commands that can be accessed from the menus or by using keyboard shortcuts.
