Axially chiral trifluoromethylbenzimidazolylbenzoic acid (TBBA) was used as a chiral derivatization agent for the assignment of the absolute configuration of β-chiral primary alcohols. The structures varied from simple aliphatic alcohols to complex cyclic systems and highly substituted sugar derivatives.
