Pragmatics and Semantics Many of the current philosophical approaches to pragmatics focus on semantics. Brandom, for example, focuses on the meaning of words (albeit from a pragmatic viewpoint). Others take a more holistic view of pragmatics, like relevance theory, which attempts to explore the understanding processes involved in an utterance made by a listener.
