Two water-soluble piano-stool shaped ruthenium(ii)-arene complexes, [RuII(η6-p-cymene)(L)Cl2] [RuLCl] and [RuII(η6-p-cymene)(L)(PTA)Cl] [RuLPTA], were designed as emissive photocytotoxic agents tagged with morpholine as the lysosome targeting moiety.
