Craigslist is very easy to advertise and best of all, it's free

In today's Internet marketing community; everyone has a great desire to find the "next unicorn" when it comes to secrets and trends. There is no doubt that Craigslist has become one of those fads for Internet marketing and spreading the word about your online activity. In this topic, I'm going to cover the basics of "how to advertise effectively on Craigslist" and go over advanced concepts to maximize your ROI from Craigslist ads.

You can find craigslists in a lot of cities such as: AbileneMankatoAltoona or Janesville.

Craigslist is very easy to advertise and best of all, it's free (with the exception of a few specific segments).

To place an ad on Craigslist, simply visit Craigslist.us and select the area (city/state) where you are interested in advertising. Once you have selected the area, you will be taken to the classifieds section.

Now you are ready to start creating your entry: This part is pretty self-explanatory, you enter the title (catch phrase - this is what people see when they look at the classifieds, so make it appealing). Next, enter your location (usually city/state, EX: Meadville pa,  Binghamton NY, or Lacrosse Wi), and type your ad/content in the main section below that.

Craigslist doesn't work as a search engine, so there is no way to "optimize" your way to the top, however, there are a few things you can do to optimize the results you see from using Craigslist as a place to advertise in some differents places or cities (Odessa Craigslist)...

ADVANCED POSTING TIPS:

The main body section of the Craigslist.us ad supports HTML code ... . This means you can use the standard bold, underline and italic codes, as well as more complex HTML codes. You can Google the basic HTML codes for: bold, underline, italic, etc.

You can use these means to embellish your entry and make it more eye-catching, as well as to highlight certain words.

HEADINGS

Headers are one of the essential parts of your Craigslist ad for several reasons. (1) Headers are big/bold text that sits at the top of the page and catches people's curiosity almost immediately when they see your post and (2) Search engines can examine your headers for SERPS (more on this below).

How to add headers to your post:

There are several types of headers, there's the etc,.... we'll focus on the header for now.

Headers should be at the top of your post and are used to capture the trust of your readers as soon as they visit your post. Crafting headings is similar to bolding, underlining or italicising text, except you use markup instead.

FOR EXAMPLE: let's say you're advertising a fence building company on Craigslist. Your headline should be something like "FREE QUOTES and SPECIAL WINTER PRICES..... CALL NOW AT 800-555-5555". This will make the header text black and larger, not to mention the search engine improvements that come with it (more on that below).

ADD PHOTOS TO YOUR POST:

Try to include a clean photograph of the item you are offering in your post. This gives the viewer a sense of ownership, they see it and they want it. Don't overdo it with photos.

HOW TO OPTIMISE A CRAIGSLIST POST FOR SEARCH ENGINES.

MAKE A LIST OF KEYWORDS:

When people search for things on Craigslist, they search for keywords within the person's postings to check whether or not that content is interesting to that viewer/searcher.

To increase the chances of your post being found within Craigslist, simply add a list of keywords to the end of your post (the keywords should be what you think the audience would type in if they were to search for your item). I'll use the billboard company again as an example below.

If I were to add a list of keywords for my billboard company post, I would probably type the following in the bottom area of my post:

"KEYWORDS: fence company, fence installer, chain link fence, PVC fence, wood fibre fence, security fence, fencing, etc.... ". Yo can also use your city for local searches. Fences in Pullman, or fence company in Parkersburg.

The reason for this is because if someone typed one of those words into the Craigslist search bar, my ad would come up! Try to add as many keywords as necessary to increase the chances of your item being found; HOWEVER, be responsible and don't add keywords like "work truck" if you are selling wine glasses.

CREATE RICH CONTENT:

Try to make your post content very practical and loaded with keywords that are compatible with your product or services. This will give search engines something to entertain themselves with when a search comes through their engines. for example: you may not only be discovered by Craigslist members who type in "coffee cups", but also by people who use Google and type in coffee cups.
Add also your city, for local searches. EX: Manila Craigslist, or Manila and your service or product.

OPTIMISE YOUR HEADER:

Remember the header we created earlier? We need to make sure that the header includes one or two of the main keywords that are in the content of our post. The header is the first feature that search engines are going to look at when they find that your post is important for a certain keyword search, so you need to make sure it contains your top two keywords. As always, use the name of four city to improve local searches. Such a Sandusky.

I hope these tips will allow you to improve your sales using Craigslist. It's a great venue for businesses to receive free advertising that is seen by millions of people. Keep in consideration that you will need to "re-publish" your posts every few days because you will drop in this last one and want to get back to the top (make sure you save your post in notepad or Microsoft word so you don't have to type it all over again).

Now you're ready to start using Craigslist as an efficient, effective and FREE marketing tool for your business that will expose you to a fortune of consumers who are local and looking for your services!
