In the current study, an environmentally benign and cost-effective procedures were suggested for the preparation of carboxy group functionalized imidazolium salts including [Cmmim]BF4- or [Cmmim]Br- as a new, re-usable Brønsted acidic ionic liquid (BAIL) catalyst.
