IgA nephropathy (IgAN) is the most common chronic primary glomerulonephritis in both children and adults, and 20-30% of patients with persistent hematuria/proteinuria progress to kidney failure within 20 years. In Japan, most cases of childhood IgAN are detected by school screening programs during the early onset of the disease when hematuria/proteinuria are asymptomatic and kidney function is normal. Therefore, it is possible to follow the detailed clinical course and appropriate therapeutic interventions from early onset of the disease.
